MANAGEMENT PLAN

Walking Tracks Policy

Currently there is a limited range of walking tracks within Trelissick Park and on adjacent land. There does, however, appear to be potential to expand the walking track system within and beyond the park boundaries including link tracks to other parks.

Policies

  1. All walking tracks are to be sensitively sited, developed and maintained to walkway or other standards appropriate to i ntended public use.
  2. A walking track network shall be developed within the park and gorge. This network shall use existing and new tracks and where appropriate and permissible use access rights over private land. (Note that adjacent landowners, while willing to covenant or otherwise protect the natural values of their land, may not agree to public access through their properties in order to protect their privacy).
  3. The location of historic routes and tracks within the area will be investigated. Where feasible consideration will be given to their reinstatement as an integral part of the park and gorge landscape.
  4. A pedestrian link from the Otari Native Botanic Garden and Wilton Bush area along the Kaiwharawhara Stream through the tunn el under the railway to the confluence of the Korimako Stream shall be investigated. The possibility of creating a boardwalk over the sewer line on the south side of the Kaiwharawhara Stream shall be investigated.
